Council hears update on splash pad drainage; staff to refine project completion dates

At the Punta Gorda pre-agenda meeting, council members and staff discussed ongoing capital projects and a recurring resident concern about slow drainage at a city splash pad.

A resident commenter, Rich Pivak, thanked staff for work on a canopy project. Council members then asked for clearer timelines for projects and completion dates. A staff member said the engineer of record is developing a new solution to fix the splash pad's slow drainage; Ron (identified in discussion as working with contractor and engineer) was described as coordinating the fix with a target of resolving the issue by the end of the week and then moving to implementation.

Staff noted that many projects are transitioning from planning to construction, which makes exact finish dates contingent on signed contracts and contractor schedules. Council members requested that project updates presented to the council include matching start and completion dates so residents can more easily track progress. Staff said project updates in the written agenda package can lag behind the verbal updates given at meetings because agendas are published earlier; staff said they provide verbal progress reports at each council meeting and will work to add clearer completion-date goals to future updates.

On the consent agenda, council members also briefly queried the splash pad item and a nature park sign; staff said the sign location and presentation details would be clarified at the regular meeting, and that signage in parks follows the city's staff-review-then-council-approval process. No contract awards or ordinances were voted on during the pre-agenda discussion.
