Council approves $202,700 purchase and installation of seven shade structures at Field of Dreams playscape

The City Council approved awarding a purchase order and installation contract for seven custom shade sails at the Field of Dreams playscape to GameTime/PlayCore in the amount of $202,700.95 using the OMNIA Partners cooperative purchasing agreement.

Public Works Director Mark Picariello said three quotes were obtained to check pricing despite the city’s cooperative membership; GameTime was the low bidder and has installed similar shade structures for other city parks. Staff told council the shades are sized to the playscape, come with an extensive warranty (staff cited a multi-year warranty and said details are in vendor materials), and will be taken down ahead of named storms as part of the city’s operating procedures.

Councilmember Fultz moved to approve the award; Mr. Frampus seconded. Council approved the purchase 7-0. Councilmembers asked about installation timing (expected within a few months, pending site locates and weather), warranty terms and hurricane procedures; staff said the vendor will install once utility locates are complete and the city will take shades down for storms as an operating practice.
