Representatives from United Way of Central Indiana told the Hamilton County Council on Oct. 1 that the organization has invested $150,000 to launch a Center for Working Families at Grace Care Center in Noblesville.
George Hutton, manager of economic mobility initiatives, said the nationally recognized model provides three strategies under one roof: employment coaching, financial coaching and access to benefits and wraparound services such as food, child care and transportation. Hutton said United Way has invested more than $5,000,000 over the past six years across nearly 50 partner organizations in Hamilton County and that roughly one in four households in the county (about 35,000 families) struggle to afford basics, citing ALICE (asset-limited, income‑constrained, employed) household data.
Aaron Gore, director of government relations, joined Hutton for the presentation. United Way asked council members to consider partnering on outreach and to note the new center as a local resource for residents pursuing economic stability.
Ending: United Way representatives offered to meet with council members individually for questions and to follow up after the launch.
