The Vigo County Commissioners approved a no‑charge lease that permits expansion of the disc golf course at Fowler Park and resolves long‑standing trail access issues on the parcel, county parks superintendent Adam Grossman said.
Grossman told commissioners the lease allows the county to extend the existing course and "clean up" trails that had been used informally for decades. He said the lease carries no fee to the county.
Parks natural resource programmer Tavia Hedrick reported on recent and upcoming events. Hedrick said the county's 53rd annual Pioneer Days drew about 2,600 attendees and roughly 900 cars over the weekend. She previewed two family hayrides on Oct. 18 (Hawthorne Hayride, 3–6 p.m.) and Oct. 25 (Fowler Park hayride and village trick‑or‑treating, 3–6 p.m.), and a Fowler Park "after dark" event from 7:30–9:30 p.m. on Oct. 25. Hedrick also noted a ribbon cutting for the Griffin Building on Oct. 17; keys have been received and the building is ready to open.
Commissioners approved the parks lease following a brief review of the agreement and confirmation from staff that county counsel and a commissioner had examined the document.
The parks department asked for volunteers for the Oct. 25 after‑dark event; contact information was not provided in the transcript.
