Great Dane seeks extension of tax abatement target date to complete phases 2 and 3

An attorney representing Great Dane asked the council to extend the target completion date in a previously approved tax abatement from Dec. 31, 2025 to Dec. 31, 2027 to allow additional time for phases 2 and 3 of the company’s planned investment.
Brent Aubrey of Faegre Drinker told the council Great Dane received an abatement in 2022 for a three-phase project and that phase 1 (coupler and frame welding consolidation) is complete. He said the investments and targets for the project have not changed but that equipment orders and implementation timing require more time, and that the company respectfully requests an extension of the target date to Dec. 31, 2027.
Council members who were not on the council when the abatement was originally approved asked for copies of the original abatement documentation and requested updates on what targets remain unmet. Aubrey said phase 2 is underway and that recent equipment orders should allow the company to meet targets well before the requested 2027 date. The company representative offered to provide contacts and additional documentation for council review; the council asked staff to provide members with the original abatement paperwork before a vote.
No formal vote on the extension was recorded at the meeting; the item was presented and council members requested follow-up materials before taking formal action.
