The Escanaba City Council on Oct. 2 approved a lease agreement with the Community Action Agency (CAA) for space in the Catherine Boniface Civic Center, including space for an adult memory daycare program.

City staff described the agreement as a modest revenue arrangement intended to help offset upkeep costs at the civic center and to re-house an adult memory daycare program that previously operated elsewhere. City staff and CAA representatives said the agency has been a reliable tenant.

Kim (city staff) explained the space allocation: the civic center has about 26,000 square feet of total space; the senior center currently occupies about 3,900 square feet and the proposed adult memory daycare will occupy roughly 1,000 square feet. Staff said the daycare and senior center will have access to other meeting rooms, the game room and the kitchen as needed, and that the lease will not affect elections or building security.

Council members moved and approved the lease on a roll-call vote. The agreement will be finalized by staff and the CAA according to the terms discussed at the meeting.
