BPAC members reported plans and outreach actions for Walk to School Day on Oct. 8, 2025, and a possible Bike to School Day on May 6, 2026.
A BPAC member said the schools are already registered and the event flyer has been prepared and will be sent to a school contact, Wendy, to be included in student backpack mailings pending superintendent approval. The group discussed posting event details on the township property pages and local social media groups (Grozeal now) and suggested placing flyers in local businesses and using GITV for additional reach.
The commission discussed signage and whether the township’s digital message boards are available amid other construction needs. One member volunteered to post materials on local social media; another agreed to check with township staff about availability of electronic trailer signs.
BPAC members recalled a past SEMCOG (Southeast Michigan Council of Governments) grant that provided reflective bracelets and discussed requesting small safety packages from SEMCOG for distribution at the event. A member said there is a SEMCOG request link and offered to share it with volunteers who will make the request.
Members suggested partnering with police and fire for public safety presence, and with the PTA for school‑based incentives such as raffles. Volunteers offered to hand out materials at schools and to include event results in the BPAC newsletter or a post‑event update.
