On Sept. 22 the Grosse Ile Township Board approved extending the township’s crack-and-joint-seal contract with Al’s Asheville for the 2025 construction season, following a recommendation from the Department of Public Services and the township engineer.
The DPS commission had budgeted $70,000 in the current road-maintenance budget for crack-and-joint sealing. Board discussion noted unit pricing from the 2023 bid will apply and that the township anticipates spending up to the budgeted $70,000. Board members and staff emphasized the value of cooperative purchasing: participating with neighboring municipalities such as Trenton and others helped secure better pricing and spread bidding costs.
Trustees discussed consistency in contract extensions after earlier votes on other vendor extensions. The board approved the one-year extension for the 2025 season; members noted the extension allows immediate maintenance work based on road-condition selection criteria and the engineer’s recommendation.
