The Haysville Planning Commission on Tuesday voted to recommend denial of a proposed zone change that would have rezoned 6401 South Sunnyside from single-family to multi-family.
The action came during the commission's discussion of old business on an item the commission first considered at its August meeting. Staff told commissioners that state statute would default a failed motion to a recommendation of denial but that Haysville City code imposes a 60-day waiting period before that default recommendation may be forwarded to the City Council; the item would therefore remain on the planning commission's agenda until the waiting period expires or a new passing motion is made.
Staff explained the procedural options available to the commission and noted the public hearing for the item had closed. A commissioner moved to recommend denial and a colleague seconded the motion; the recommendation to deny carried on a roll call with five aye votes and one abstention. The vote clears the item from the commission's immediate agenda if forwarded as a recommendation of denial under city code.
