Mayor Dylan Romrell and Police Chief Dan Carswell announced two free, family-oriented events organized by the City of St. Augustine Beach this week: National Night Out on Oct. 7 at the St. Augustine Beach Pier and a "Not So Spooky" carnival on Oct. 24 at City Hall and the police department parking lot.
The events are meant to connect residents with first responders and local nonprofits. "So tomorrow, National Night Out at the Saint Johns County Pier. It's a great community event. It's a free event. It's a chance for our community to come out and interact with all of our first responders in a positive way," Police Chief Dan Carswell said.
National Night Out will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the St. Augustine Beach Pier. Carswell said about 30 nonprofit organizations will attend and that the event will include a bike raffle, a DJ and free food.
The Not So Spooky carnival is scheduled for Oct. 24. Romrell said the city expanded the event this year from a single trick-or-treat spot at the police department to use the entire parking lot, with multiple stops for children to collect candy, games and music. Carswell confirmed the carnival will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Both speakers invited residents to attend. "Please come out and join us," Carswell said, referring to both the National Night Out and the carnival.
No fees, registrations or permitting details were discussed during the remarks.
