A teacher and district staffers used the meeting’s public-comment period to describe Olathe Public Schools’ credit-recovery programs and to thank colleagues who run guided-study labs, adult-education and other recovery programs across district sites.
Nick Kraly, a district teacher, told the board that since the beginning of the school year about 700 learners — high-school and adult-learners combined — have used Edgenuity as an online credit-recovery platform. Kraly named staff across Olathe schools and alternative programs who operate guided-study labs and recovery programs, saying the teams provide second chances to students who need nontraditional approaches to complete coursework and earn diplomas.
Kraly listed staff at multiple sites and programs and asked the board and community to recognize the work done behind the scenes to make credit recovery possible. He urged appreciation for the “huge team” of teachers, counselors and program managers who handle nontraditional learners, and described the work as essential, though not always visible or headline-grabbing.
Ending: The public comment was an informational recognition of district staff who support credit recovery rather than an action item; no board decision followed directly from the comments.
