Members of the DEC reviewed proposed logos and discussed a branding push that would market Estacada as a Christmas tree destination in the Pacific Northwest and support the city’s upcoming 120th anniversary plans.
Committee members examined six logo concepts shared in the meeting packet. One option featuring a stylized evergreen drew positive reaction for referencing local tree farms and for potential all-year use. A committee member suggested designing a version that could be used year-round for the “Christmas tree capital of the PNW” theme, and another suggested a sticker-friendly design with a border so businesses could easily use it on windows.
The group also discussed whether the logo should include a year. Members generally preferred omitting a specific year from the primary mark so merchandise could be reused in subsequent years; for anniversary uses they discussed an adaptable element (for example, a removable line reading “120 years” for 2025).
Participants discussed practicalities for producing stickers and merchandise (color contrast, borders for die-cut stickers, and sizing). The committee agreed to run a preference poll (doodle-style) to narrow designs to a top three and to finalize a reduced list before the next meeting. Evelyn was tasked with running the poll so results are available to the commission in time for a final selection.
Separately, members discussed Founders’ Day and a possible weekend of events around the town’s 120th anniversary in May 2025. The group noted that the anniversary idea remains early-stage: they discussed possible date ranges and partnerships (Arts Commission and uncorked/founders weekend coordination), and emphasized that any anniversary logo or artwork should be adaptable so it can be updated in later years.
No formal vote on a logo or on Founders’ Day programming was recorded in the transcript; members agreed to a doodle poll and to return the item for further discussion at a future meeting.
