The Wixom City Council authorized July 7 the purchase of a Bobcat UW56 toolcat with implements from Bobcat of Lansing for $72,494.80 using the State of Michigan MI-Deal purchasing program.
Public works staff described the machine as a multiuse workhorse that will be fitted to the city's existing implements — mowers, clippers and plows — and used across the downtown, the DDA area and the airline trail. "This new one will be fitted for our existing implements," Public Works staff member Mister Sikma said, noting the equipment was planned in the capital budget to support trail trimming, sidewalk maintenance and seasonal tasks.
A council member suggested additional safety measures such as adding caution lights and city logos to the vehicle when driven on public streets; staff said operational and stowage plans include seasonal parking and use of glow plugs in winter when stored near the police station.
Vote: The purchase was approved by voice vote. The purchase will be charged to DPW equipment account number 401-441-974.396.
