The Wixom City Council on March 11, 2025, approved several procurement and capital items, including a software license purchase, a sole-source water meter purchase and a local road contract.
The council approved the city’s purchase of 88 Microsoft Office Professional Plus licenses from CDW-G at a total of $34,606, with associated installation by Skynet Innovations, plus a set of Microsoft security and Exchange Online licenses at an annual subscription of $6,765. Assistant City Manager Drew Benson and Ty Dolan of Skynet Innovations described the purchase as a one-time software acquisition (Office 2024) combined with continued subscriptions for other services; staff said purchasing the applications outright offered better value over a multi-year horizon than moving entirely to subscription licensing. The motion to approve the recommendation passed unanimously among members present.
Council also waived the bid process and authorized purchase of Census SR water meters, electronic radio readers, and related supplies from sole-source provider Aetna Supply Company of Wixom, Michigan, in an amount not to exceed $28,000. Staff member Jim (presenter) said Aetna has been the city’s local supplier and that Census meters are supplied through Aetna as the sole Michigan supplier; council approved the purchase by council vote.
The council awarded the 2025 local road program for Powder Road to T and M Asphalt Paving Incorporated of Milford, Michigan, for an amount not to exceed $678,509.05 and approved a related budget amendment. Staff member Tim (presenter) said the project is primarily a mill-and-overlay with minor repairs, that the contractor was the lowest of eight bids and that the award was timed to begin work following the recent road millage vote. Council and staff said one lane open traffic management is expected during construction.
