Adrian Planning Commission approves farmer’s-market permit, OKs marijuana grow phase 1 and recommends new zoning ordinance with laundromat allowance

The Adrian City Planning Commission on Aug. 5 approved three separate actions: a one‑year temporary use permit for a Friday farmers market at 1800 West US‑223 operated by the Christian Family Center; a phase‑1 zoning exception and site‑plan approval for a marijuana cultivation facility at 1160 Treat Street; and a unanimous recommendation to the city commission to adopt a new zoning ordinance with one correction and an added allowance for self‑service laundromats in commercial districts.

The commission granted the Christian Family Center a temporary use permit authorizing a weekly farmers market on Fridays from Aug. 15, 2025, through Aug. 15, 2026, with operating hours permitted from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to allow setup and teardown flexibility. Valerie Beach, the center’s food‑service and events director, told commissioners the group expects to start Aug. 15, run weekly through late October if weather permits and could extend in later seasons; she said about 16 vendors had expressed interest and the site can accommodate roughly 33 10x10 tents.
