Waterloo pool emergency repairs near completion; roof repairs under insurance review

Parks and Recreation staff told the commission the emergency repair project at Waterloo pool has restored three walls and nearly finished infrastructure and mechanical work; the south wall still requires work on four columns and the roof repairs are under insurance review.
Staff showed photos and described progress on the north wall, which was removed down to the columns and rebuilt. “All of the infrastructure issues, both, all 4 walls received upgrades, repairs. The north wall, of course, was completely removed and redone outside of the, polycarbonate that's up top,” the staff member said. The east and west walls received plating systems attached to columns; the south wall still needs work on four columns to complete infrastructure repairs.
Staff said a mechanical air-exchange system has been installed on the north and south walls and that electrical programming for fans and control panels is ongoing; most infrastructure and the air-exchange system are “very close, if not complete already,” the staff member said. Roof-repair discussions are in early stages with an insurance adjuster who has inspected the roof; staff said they are working with insurance to scope and schedule repairs but had no firm timeline.
Staff also reported the pool reopened for summer programming and has seen strong attendance since reopening. Final completion items and any remaining contracting or warranty work were not specified at the meeting.
