Tiffin proclaims October 2025 Domestic Violence Awareness Month; First Step of Fostoria recognized

Mayor Eileen Wilkinson presented a proclamation designating October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Tiffin and invited representatives from First Step of Fostoria to speak.
Marissa Orrzakowski and Amy Kinney, executive director of First Step of Fostoria, addressed the council. Kinney noted that the official Ohio fatalities report for the year would be released the following day and that the statewide total included 114 fatalities, with two in Seneca County this year. Kinney said First Step continues educational, prevention and survivor-support efforts.
The proclamation text read in council described domestic violence as a public-health and safety issue that affects individuals and communities regardless of background, and it commended local organizations, law enforcement and social-service partners for providing shelter, advocacy and support. The mayor encouraged residents to increase awareness, check smoke alarms and work toward a future free from domestic violence.
Councilors and the mayor publicly thanked First Step representatives for their work; the proclamation was presented and will be part of the clerk’s official records.
