Myla Demko, a biology teacher for Dublin City (Regular School District), outlined plans to lead a nine-day trip to Ecuador that includes visits to Quito, the Galápagos Islands and Otavalo. "I am here to talk to you guys about the trip that I am taking to Ecuador," Demko said.
Demko said the itinerary begins with arrival in Quito, where participants will spend a couple of nights, visit the equatorial line and stop at the church La Compañía de Jesús. After those stays in Quito, the group will fly to the Galápagos Islands to spend several days visiting different islands, observing wildlife and snorkeling. "Day 3 is when we are going to travel to the islands to see the different wildlife. Day 4, we'll do some snorkeling," she said.
The itinerary includes wildlife viewing (Demko listed turtles and flamingos), beach time at Tortuga Bay, and a day trip to Otavalo to see the market and a waterfall. Demko outlined the schedule as a roughly nine-day program with return flights to Quito before departing for the United States: "Day 7, more exploration and then flying back to Quito... Day 8, we will take a trip, to Otavalo, explore the market, see a waterfall, and then day 9, we will fly out."
Demko identified herself as a biology teacher and emphasized the trip's scientific and cultural focus, noting interest in the Galápagos as the site of Charles Darwin's studies and in sampling Ecuadorian cuisine during the visit. She closed the presentation with contact information for prospective participants or guardians: demco_myla@dublinschools.net, and said, "I look forward to seeing you in Ecuador."
