The Milton Board of Adjustment elected Howard Steele as chair and Kyle Baker as vice chairman at its Sept. 29 meeting. The board approved the minutes from its Aug. 25 meeting and voted to reorder two new-business items before receiving a legal training.
Miss Rice moved to nominate Howard Steele as chairman; the motion received a second and passed. Later, a motion to nominate Kyle Baker for vice chairman was seconded and passed; the board confirmed both officers by majority vote.
Before the election and following other routine actions, Planning Department staff provided an update on development activity. Planning staff reported they are ‘‘very close to issuing a formal city approval’’ for a previously approved variance for Jack’s project and noted ongoing and upcoming proposals.
Staff said the most recent application under review is a commercial subdivision for approximately 10 acres north of Publix along Dogwood; the applicants propose to divide the property into seven parcels and will attend a technical-review committee meeting next week. The site is zoned C-1 (neighborhood commercial), and staff said intensity limits will constrain heavy industrial uses.
Planning staff said the Florida Department of Transportation has included right-of-way costs for an intersection improvement at Stewart Street and Magnolia in an upcoming repaving project; staff said FDOT ‘‘accepts that there is an issue’’ at that intersection and that right-of-way acquisition is expected in the near future. Staff also described incremental landscaping and redevelopment along Stewart Street, naming recent private improvements at a convenience store, Santa Rosa Kids House and Grover’s as visual enhancements.
The board heard that the city issued an RFP for development of a parcel at Broad Street and Quinn Street; proposals have been received and are under evaluation, with a recommendation to city council forthcoming.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that passed by voice vote.
