The Town of Miami Lakes Economic Development Committee voted to require a town business tax receipt (BTR) connection for nominees in the Best of Miami Lakes program.
A motion put on the floor clarified that eligible nominees must be either a local business with a current BTR or an individual whose employer holds a BTR in Miami Lakes tied to their nomination. Committee members said the requirement was intended to limit the program to businesses that have a formal local presence rather than out-of-area businesses or remote service providers with no Miami Lakes registration.
The motion was seconded and approved by a voice vote. Committee members discussed edge cases โ for example, independent consultants who operate from home or individuals who are Miami Lakes residents but whose primary business address is elsewhere โ and agreed the rule should apply where there is a demonstrable local business presence, either through a BTR or similar local registration.
Ending: Staff was asked to draft a short eligibility description for the Best of Miami Lakes categories that staff can include in the event materials and online nomination form, and to circulate that language to the committee for final sign-off.
