The Town of Miami Lakes Economic Development Committee discussed scheduling and logistics for several town events — including the Culinary Bike Tour, Main Street Live and recurring networking socials — and approved a $500 allocation for a networking social set for Aug. 27.
The committee debated whether to move the Culinary Bike Tour to later in the fiscal year (options discussed included October, November or February) so the group can focus on a business boot camp now underway. Members noted February is typically quieter on the events calendar and may provide better promotional focus, while several said keeping the event in September would preserve its annual cadence.
Members also confirmed that the cultural affairs committee committed to staging three Main Street Live events next year and discussed marketing support for those concerts. Staff said communications would work with the committee on promotional calendars.
On formal action, the committee approved a $500 expenditure from the committee’s networking/socials line for a networking event at Churascas on Aug. 27. “That would be for August 27,” a committee member noted while presenting an invoice and menu items from Churascas; the motion passed by voice vote.
Committee members then discussed a September networking event and directed staff to reach out to local businesses to host future networking socials so the committee can rotate venues across town. When possible, committee members asked staff to prioritize West-side locations to balance previous East-side hosting.
Separately, the committee voted to authorize the EDC to join the Chamber-hosted networking event sequence in September and to use remaining fiscal-year funds (if needed) to support up to one additional networking social before the year-end. Members identified Sushi Bombs as a likely host for a Sept. 17 date and identified Cancun as a backup.
Ending: Staff was directed to notify the chamber, confirm vendor availability for the Aug. 27 networking social, and compile a short list of town businesses willing to host future networking events so the committee can finalize later dates.
