The Milton Historic Preservation Board approved a lamppost sign design for the United Methodist Church after asking staff to revise the language and add a scannable QR code pointing to the city's historic walking tour or interactive story map.
Planning department staff presented a final rendition that added two website links: one to the city's historic district page and another to an interactive story map. Board members said the full URLs on the sign would be difficult for the public to type and recommended a QR code or a short forwarding domain. "I think, you know, people would actually do that versus typing in that long URL," one board member said.
The board directed staff to update the sign language to include a QR code, reference the Milton Historic Walking Tour/interactive story map, and include the building number on the sign to help visitors match a sign to the interactive map. Tim, planning department staff, confirmed staff will request the revisions and send the revised art to the sign fabricator.
Board members also clarified that the lampposts for these signs are city-owned posts (not FPL-owned) in the downtown area where the Veterans Memorial is located. The board approved a motion to proceed with the revised sign and for staff to move the design to sign crafters; staff said fabrication would take about a week after final approval.
