Commenter 1, Commenter, told meeting attendees that "Lucia has always been amazing, and she doesn't feel like she is, but she is," and described Lucia's tendency to share classroom practices quietly with colleagues.
Commenter 2, Commenter, said the staff operates as a team despite differences and emphasized the importance of early-year relationship-building, saying she studies "the first 2 months" to create connections that help tailor instruction.
Both commenters described classroom methods they said Lucia uses to reach diverse learners. Commenter 1 said, "she is so great at engaging all the students. And even though I don't speak Spanish, when I go into her classroom, I feel like I totally can just because she's so great at getting scaffolds and supports and gestures and everything so that you know exactly what's happening even if you can't understand the language." Commenter 1 also described Lucia's use of positive incentives, saying "she's always so positive. She's handing out positive incentives and tokens and rewards," and added that students "are working just to please her and just to get that positive, feedback from her. They just want to be in her class and they love learning with her."
Commenter 2 detailed an observation-based approach to professional growth: "The best way that I found to improve myself, to improve my skills, to improve as a professional, to improve as a teacher is by paying attention to my students... I'm trying to observe them. I'm trying to pay attention to them, and then I'm like, okay, this is my chance." She said she uses the early months of the year to understand students' backgrounds and learning needs so she can provide instruction "in the way that they need it."
Both speakers noted a classroom structure Commenter 2 credited to Lucia in which "every student in her classroom has a job, and so they all feel like they have that responsibility." Commenter 2 framed these practices as creating positive memories for students, saying, "At the end, they are not gonna remember our names. But my goal is just trying to make sure that at the end... maybe I can create a good memory for them."
No formal action or vote on this topic was recorded in the transcript; the remarks appeared during the public-comment portion of the meeting.
