Denison Planning and Zoning Commission approves consent agenda; staff reports council reinstated amusement uses and approved conditional permit for Elevate Golf

The City of Denison Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved its consent agenda, which included the June 24 meeting minutes, a preliminary plat for the Waterloo Trails addition and a site plan for the Katie at Waterloo Trails multifamily development.

City of Denison planning staff reported to the commission that the City Council had, at its most recent meeting, reinstated two uses in the city’s use regulation chart for "amusement, commercial" (with and without alcohol sales, indoors and outdoors) and approved a conditional use permit for Elevate Golf Club LLC to operate at 728 West Main (the Goodyear Building). Staff said these council actions adopted the commission’s prior recommendations without additional conditions.

Staff also updated commissioners on the residential design standards project, noting consultant Phyllis Geryl has been engaged to help draft the ordinances; staff said no materials have been returned yet and Mary (staff) has been on vacation but will return later in the week. Staff introduced Justin Castleberry, hired the prior Monday as a planner for the department, and said Justin and Felicia (staff) have begun working together on day-to-day planning tasks. Planning intern Nomi, a University of Texas at Arlington student, was introduced; staff said she will work through mid-August primarily on a block-by-block program developed by UTA graduate students.

There were no public comments on the consent agenda items. A commissioner moved to approve the consent agenda and a second was recorded; the motion passed unanimously. The commission then proceeded to the public hearing on the Sunnyside replat.
