The Main Street Advisory Board approved updated mission and vision statements built from a 103‑response online survey and a facilitated drafting session.
Donna (Main Street staff) summarized the community input and the process used to develop the statements, saying the online survey produced a clear emphasis on “historic charm” and community spirit. Staff used that survey output along with two AI‑generated draft options and meeting input to distill the proposed language.
After brief edits to add “families” to the vision line, the board voted by voice to approve the new statements and to forward them to city council for consideration. The proposed vision reads in the adopted draft: “Historic Downtown Denison is a vibrant shopping, dining, and living destination that is a magnet for families, business, arts, culture, and entertainment.” The adopted mission reads: “As a Great American Main Street Award‑winning city, Denison drives preservation‑based revitalization by fostering a vibrant, walkable downtown that blends historic charm with diverse experiences in commerce, culture, and livability.”
Staff said the statements will be submitted to city council on the September 2 agenda and that the board can make final edits before council review if needed.
