Recall petition falls eight signatures short, clerk tells La Marque council

Resident Hailey Winkleman told the council she came up eight signatures short on her recall petition and said she refiled it. Later in the meeting, City Clerk Kira Nance said the official tallies showed the petition was eight signatures short and that the petition was not moving forward, information she said she had sent to council members.
Councilmember Joe Papia said he does not support recalls generally and suggested the council—9s ordinance-review process could examine procedures or waiting periods before new petitions are filed. The mayor noted that charter review occurs through the city—9s charter review committee and that the charter is reviewed at least once every five years.
Clerk Nance said she sent an official letter to the council documenting the petition status. The council did not take any action on the matter during the meeting; the clerk indicated the petition was not advancing.
