The Mount Shasta City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance amending the municipal code to limit snow-parking designation at the Sysum Youth Baseball Park parking lot to Nov. 1 through March 1.
Police and public-works staff said the baseball-park lot had been designated as a snow-parking area but the youth-sports season has extended into March in recent years, creating conflicts when the lot was used for snow-storage or other snow operations. The proposed ordinance change shortens the snow-parking window so the lot is cleared in time for players, parents and teams.
Chief Ken told the council the city now has two additional parking lots that provide alternate spaces during snow operations and staff does not expect the change to leave users without parking. The change was presented as a code amendment limiting snow-parking at that location to November 1 through March 1 of each year.
Council action: A motion to approve the ordinance’s first reading passed by voice vote; the council waived full reading of resolutions and ordinances on the consent agenda as allowed by municipal procedure.
Public comment: No members of the public asked to speak on this item during the hearing.
