Jackson County adopts floodplain and subdivision ordinance updates to comply with state law

The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners adopted two ordinance changes on Sept. 23 to bring county code into compliance with recent state legislative mandates.
County staff said the amendments to the county's floodplain management ordinance were required by a review from the Florida Division of Emergency Management and largely involved numbering and administrative updates. During the public hearing a resident asked whether the change would affect flood‑insurance rates; a county staff member answered, "This would not change the flood insurance requirements," and said the revisions were limited to county floodplain administration.
Separately, the board approved second reading and adoption of changes to the county's subdivision ordinance, citing state legislative updates (identified in staff materials as S.B. 784). The commission set an effective date of July 1, 2025, for the subdivision ordinance changes. Staff described the subdivision changes as mandatory updates required by state law rather than discretionary policy changes.
Both ordinances were read by title at the meeting and adopted after the public hearing was closed.
County staff and commissioners said they would provide any additional public information about the changes on request.
