The Vermillion County Council approved at its special meeting an initial appropriation of $371,000 from Vermillion County Library funds to replace the library's heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system.
The appropriation was presented to the council as a formal step to authorize the library to spend funds it already holds. "They advertised an additional appropriation of 371,000 for replacement of their HVAC system," a council member said during the meeting. The council moved quickly through the item after members said questions raised during earlier budget hearings had been answered.
Council member Somerville moved to approve the appropriation and Mr. Weir seconded the motion. The council chair called for the ayes and the motion was approved.
During discussion a council member asked whether the new system would cover the gymnasium; the meeting record includes technical counts for the proposed installation (23 units upstairs, 16 units downstairs and four outside, with six described as "in the snow"). The transcript does not tie those specific unit counts to a named speaker.
The council did not identify any additional funding sources for the project at the meeting; the appropriation was described as coming from the library's own funds. The library representative who attended earlier budget hearings was thanked during the meeting.
The council took no further action on the item beyond the appropriation vote, and members encouraged the project to proceed promptly.
