Mayor Chuck Shaw read the proclamation noting that 2025 marks the 103rd anniversary of Fire Prevention Week and highlighting the year's theme focused on lithium-ion battery fire safety in the home. The proclamation encouraged residents to promote the safe use of lithium-ion batteries and noted the city's support for education and prevention efforts.
Chief Khan of Greenacres Fire Rescue thanked the council for the proclamation and described a public outreach program: firefighters will partner with a local Domino's store to deliver pizzas; if a household's smoke detector is not working, the crew will install one, and if the detector is working the household will receive a free pizza. Chief Khan said the program begins "tomorrow night" and that crews will also conduct presentations at schools and community events throughout the month.
Councilmembers and the city manager described having participated in recent fire-operations training and thanked the fire-rescue staff for their service. No vote was required for the proclamation; the council presented it and the fire department outlined planned outreach and education activities.
