Council accepts $10,500 Fulton County arts grant to support East Point public-arts programming

The East Point City Council voted on Aug. 18 to accept a $10,500 arts-and-culture grant from the Fulton County Arts and Culture Commission to support the city’s public-arts programs.
Christopher Swain, public-arts coordinator, told the council that Fulton County reduced its arts-contract-for-service pool this year because the county is directing funds to facility repairs at the county-level (the county’s allocation fell from about $3 million in prior cycles to roughly $1.3 million this year). Despite that, East Point’s application scored high enough to receive the $10,500 award.
Council voted to accept the contract and authorized staff to execute required documents. Parks and Recreation Director Pickett said staff will return with details on how the funds will be applied to upcoming events and programming in East Point’s public-arts calendar.
The grant requires a contract with Fulton County; staff said execution will follow routine county procedures. The vote was unanimous by voice; council members congratulated the parks and arts staff for winning the award in a competitive year.
