The Wixom City Council voted to authorize the city manager, per the Wage and Salary Committee recommendation, to implement wage and benefit adjustments for nonunion employees for fiscal year 2025–26, effective July 1, 2025. The adoption includes a revised salary grade structure and covers positions such as city manager, city clerk, assistant city manager and director of economic development.
The committee met before the council meeting and presented a mix of base increases and merit-based adjustments for some employees. A council member asked whether the increases were merit-based or straight across-the-board; the presenter said it is a combination: some employees receive a base increase (noted in discussion as roughly 3% in prior years) while other nonunion positions may receive merit-based adjustments.
Council discussion included a request by Council member Behrman that the director of public works be reclassified to a higher grade because of wastewater expertise; council members were told the wage-and-salary committee can revisit grade placement and that changing a grade does not by itself alter a current salary but changes the grade maximums. The council approved the committee recommendation by voice vote.
The motion authorizes the city manager to implement the adjustments and adopts the revised nonunion salary grade structure effective July 1, 2025. Council directed wage-and-salary committee to schedule a follow-up on specific grade placement concerns.
