Scott County council members agreed Oct. 7 to transfer funds to allow county officials to bid at a municipal surplus auction for chairs and audio equipment the county needs.
Councilors discussed moving $8,000 from a burial-and-stone-setting account (which had roughly $9,400) into an office/equipment line so county representatives could bid on surplus leather chairs, filing cabinets and audiovisual equipment the county said it needs. "Do we wanna move $8,000 from burial and stone setting ... that would leave, in theory, plenty of money there," one council member said; commissioners instructed staff to prepare a transfer resolution to be voted on at a future meeting.
Why it matters: The county said the chairs and equipment would reduce the need to buy new items at retail cost and avoid storage or purchase delays. Officials said the instruments are being auctioned publicly and that county reps could attend the sale; any purchase would require appropriation and proper procurement procedures.
What happens next: staff will draft a transfer resolution moving $8,000 from the burial-and-stone-setting line to an appropriate equipment/office-supplies line and bring that resolution to the council for formal approval at a future meeting.
Ending: Council members said they will send representatives to the auction and asked staff to prepare the transfer paperwork so purchases can be paid from county funds once the appropriation is approved.
