The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a proclamation recognizing Sept. 12, 2025, as National Black Growers Council Farm Field Day in Jackson County.
The proclamation, read aloud during the meeting by Mary Smith (staff member), described the event as a demonstration and educational day for row-crop farmers. "Whereas the National Black Growers Council works to improve the efficiency, productivity, and sustainability of row crop farmers across the United States through education, advocacy, and demonstration of innovative practices," Smith read, and the proclamation noted the event will be hosted at Gilbert Farms in Marianna and will feature demonstrations on cotton and peanut production.
The proclamation also noted that Dr. Spires (board member) will represent the commission at the event and present the signed proclamation. The board approved the proclamation by unanimous consent without a roll-call vote recorded in the transcript.
The event was described in the proclamation as showcasing techniques and equipment intended to "improve efficiency, sustainability, and profitability for row crop producers," with a focus on hands-on demonstrations producers can apply on their operations.
No public testimony or opposition was recorded on the proclamation during the meeting.
The commission moved on after the proclamation vote to the next agenda items.
