The Town Commission voted Aug. 20 to replace the old Town Hall history center roof and to contract for five leaking east‑side windows.
Roof replacement: Public works director Tom Davis presented three bids; commissioners discussed material and installers. After review, the commission voted 5–0 to hire Kala’s Roofing (as moved on the floor) to replace the roof at the historic/town‑hall building. Commissioners noted the county’s pending lease extension for the facility; staff agreed contracts would not be executed until the county’s lease was finalized.
Windows: Staff presented three competitive quotes for five leaking impact windows. Bids included different manufacturers; staff recommended a vinyl impact window option. The commission voted 3–2 to contract with Brevard Window & Door for installation of five impact-rated vinyl windows in the fire‑department portion of the building, with an expressed direction that installers verify and, where necessary, correct the window openings and drainage details prior to installation to avoid repeated leaks. The commission also instructed staff to coordinate any exterior finish repairs that result from window removal and reinstallation.
Why it matters: The building houses town offices and the history center and suffered leaks during storms. The work aims to stop recurring water intrusion and mold risk and to keep municipal operations safe during severe weather.
Procedural note: Commissioners and staff discussed waiting to execute contracts until the county executes an upcoming lease extension for the building; staff recorded that contracts should not be signed until the lease matter is resolved.
Implementation: Public works will coordinate procurement, collect insurance and license documentation, and proceed to contract execution after confirmation the county lease has been finalized.
