Mason City Council on March 17 approved a resolution selecting 710 North Cedar Street as the site for the city’s new Department of Public Works facility and authorized other actions needed to move the project forward.
City Manager Deborah Stewart and staff told council the city closed on the Cedar Street property the previous Friday after an abbreviated due-diligence period to determine whether the former retail/John Deere dealership building could be adapted for long-term public works use. Stewart said the wastewater treatment plant project drove the timetable: the existing DPW building will be demolished this fall while the treatment plant is under construction.
