Anderson City Council approved purchase of a generator for the Generosity Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant to provide a sustainable backup power source for critical sewer infrastructure.
Staff said the plant's existing permanent generator failed in 2023 and the city has relied on a movable portable generator as a short-term measure. The replacement generator is available from Blanchard Energy under the cooperative government purchasing contract and is in stock, with a total cost of $133,754 including installation. Staff reported that a FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant will cover $100,315.50 of the purchase and the sewer utilities budget will fund $33,438.50.
Staff told the council that only one vendor could meet the grant completion deadline of Nov. 21, 2026. Councilmembers praised staff for pursuing the grant funding and recommended approving the purchase; the council approved the contract unanimously.
Staff described the action as supporting the city's strategic goal of sustainable infrastructure and said the Utilities Department will manage installation and coordination with grant reporting.
