Centennial staff update council on LED streetlight dimming pilot, splash pad timeline and traffic signals

City Manager Sturgeon said crews are converting more than 2,000 streetlights to LED across the city and that a late‑night dimming setting will be implemented to address resident concerns about brightness between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. “That should alleviate a lot of the angst that some of the neighborhoods are feeling around the bright lights,” he said. Sturgeon said staff are tracking complaints and that Public Works manager Matt Simpson will follow up with residents as needed. Council members asked whether dimming could be adjusted for special events such as Halloween; staff said centralized control allows schedule and scene adjustments.
Public works staff said the Alton Way sidewalk and lights work is complete and that the Arapahoe‑Clarkson traffic signals will be turned on this week. Sturgeon reported the splash pad construction had faced unexpected issues but remained on track for substantial completion on Oct. 8; staff said the splash pad will be ready in time for the city’s 25th‑anniversary activities and that a ribbon‑cutting or inauguration event is planned.
Information technology and AV upgrades were also noted: closed captioning will be available for remote viewers through the new in‑chamber AV system.
