Medical Teams International told the committee it can offer CPR/first-aid/AED training and has grant-funded preparedness kits to distribute to community groups. The group typically limits in-person classes to about 20 participants per session but can offer multiple sessions; it normally requires 4–6 weeks’ notice. Medical Teams also partners with OEM (Oregon Emergency Management) for a “Be Ready in Two Weeks” course that lasts roughly four hours and may be offered virtually or in person.
Committee members discussed whether classes would be offered only for volunteers (as some programs prioritize) or open to the general public. Staff said they will pursue options with the Red Cross and Medical Teams International and check space capacity at the library and community center. The committee also discussed a possible small-scale preparedness exercise and a potential mass-care shelter exercise but determined the latter would not be within the committee’s scope.
Members agreed to follow up on scheduling classes in the fall when community members are more available and to explore grant opportunities to provide kits or incentives at community events.
