El Campo’s City Development Corporation and city council approved a $100,000 job-creation incentive for Aqua Fit Chlorination tied to the company’s planned expansion.
Aqua Fit’s owner, Todd White, told board members the company currently employs 10 people at the site and expects to add a minimum of 12 new jobs with the new production line. The CDC’s job-creation incentive is payable after the company documents the new hires and retains them for one year; staff will verify hires using state unemployment tax reports and pay the incentive proportionally if the company hires fewer than the projected number.
CDC staff and board members discussed typical benchmarks for previous incentives and noted the CDC’s approach is to verify payroll records before payment. The council recorded approval of the CDC’s recommended incentive; a motion to approve the $100,000 incentive passed at the meeting.
If Aqua Fit fails to meet the stated hiring or retention conditions, CDC staff indicated the board would revisit the award and could reduce or withhold payment according to the agreed terms.
