Minority Business Development Center credits Peoria County funding for expansion of workforce and financial-wellness programs

Denise Moore, co-CEO and founder of the Minority Business Development Center under the Black Business Alliance, told the Peoria County Board that a county sponsorship helped her nonprofit recover from a $150,000 funding loss and expand workforce and financial-wellness programming.
Moore said the county's support allowed the organization to continue and grow its workforce-development work and to launch a financial-wellness initiative, funded in part by a Wells Fargo grant. "A lot of the things that they're learning, they wouldn't have gotten any place else," Moore said, describing classes on budgeting, credit and job-readiness for clients who are re-entering the workforce.
Moore reported attendance and usage increases since the last update: total attendees rose from 532 to 656, in-person office visits increased from 844 to 1,085, and workforce-program attendance rose from about 25 to about 80, according to Moore's presentation remarks. She invited board members to visit the Nerdy Vista Development Center and said presentation slides would be distributed to county staff.
The presentation was informational; the board accepted the report and asked staff to circulate Moore's slides to board members.
