Construction advancing at New Garden and Greenwood elementary projects, district facilities report says

Kennett Consolidated School District facilities staff reported on Oct. 13 that construction at the new New Garden Elementary and Greenwood Elementary is progressing with major exterior and interior finishes nearing completion.

During the facilities report, a staff member identified as Mr. Bryce outlined work at New Garden: exterior concrete for stairs and sidewalks is complete in several areas, grinder-pump installation has begun, terrazzo flooring is finished in areas B, C and D, and window frames and mechanical work are in progress. The report said contractors are completing electrical terminations preparatory to permanent power and finishing interior fixtures and drywall.

At Greenwood, the staff report said exterior site work and roof work are advanced: the storm drain system for the building roof was "approximately 80% complete," the permanent forced sewer main has been installed and tied in, and the water-main installation is about "75% complete." Roofing is in place across most areas, a generator has been set, and steel framing and masonry work are ongoing. HVAC units and electrical conduit installation are underway in multiple areas.

The District Office project received building permits and the district's dark-fiber provider relocated a main distribution line to avoid disturbance during construction. At Kennett High School, minor summer projects were completed, including installation of fob readers on an athletic trainer room door and Door 12 at Mary D. Lang.

During questions from the board, Mr. Bryce said he felt the district was "where we need to be going into the winter," noting ongoing mechanical and interior work.

Ending: Facilities staff concluded that both school construction projects are moving efficiently and that monthly safety and security training for staff will continue.
