Commissioners reviewed three upcoming community events and logistics: a Park Table community booth on May 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the Young Makers Fair on May 10 (the commission set the event 1 to 4 p.m. in Wade Creek Park); and the city's Concerts in the Park series, scheduled for Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wagner said registration links and forms have been posted on the city website and Facebook page, and staff had added a QR code to the forms for vendor signups and digital signatures.
Wagner and commissioners discussed operational details: canopies for booths are stored in the city storage room and can be picked up in advance; the city does not typically provide tables and commissioners were asked to bring what they can; community-room reservations were discussed as a contingency to reduce cross-traffic during events; staff and commissioners agreed volunteers should arrive early for setup. For the Young Makers Fair, Wagner said the library's plant sale will overlap at Wade Creek Park and that the two events sell different items and could attract more visitors by co-locating.
On concerts, commissioners confirmed the Thursday schedule and discussed volunteer duties such as providing water and small tokens for performing bands. Commissioners also discussed child-friendly activities (chalk, bubbles, yard games) and possible local food vendors; staff said vendors were being contacted.
Wagner confirmed the registration form for the Young Makers Fair is live and that signups had started. Commissioners discussed outreach to the high school and other community groups to boost participation. The commission also noted that plans for the Founders event are being deferred in favor of a longer-range celebration (references were made to a 125-year planning horizon); specifics were not set.
Wagner: “For applying for the grants, they would expect to hear results back in October. Which means they'd set up for an RFP around November. And then if we are successful and everything goes to plan, they would start work around March. So it would take about 12 to 18 months.”
Next steps: commissioners agreed to gather signatures for the master-plan letter by April 30, promote the Park Table and Young Makers Fair, coordinate canopy pickup and volunteer assignments, and support the Concerts in the Park schedule.
