Committee forwards Pitney Bowes lease renewal for Monroe Middle to full board

The Union County Public Schools Finance Committee voted to forward a lease-renewal item for a Pitney Bowes postage machine at Monroe Middle School to the full board for approval.
Shauna explained the renewal is for an agreement longer than one year and, under district rules, such agreements require board approval. She said the district attempted to secure a one-year agreement but the vendor would not allow that term. "Evidently, we try to get this into a 1 year agreement, but they really won't allow for that," Shauna said. Committee members agreed to send the renewal to the full board; the motion passed with an "Aye" vote count recorded by the chair.
Shauna said not all schools have postage machines; higher-volume mailers such as high schools more commonly have them. She explained the Pitney Bowes machines do not provide a postage discount compared with stamps and that metered postage requires additional labor; the machine is used primarily for convenience and volume handling at Monroe Middle School.
The committee did not amend the motion. The item will be presented to the full board for final action.
