The Union County Public Schools Finance Committee voted to send the district's 2025'1026 ("2526") budget resolution, which includes state, federal and local allocations and a roughly $8 million local increase, to the full board for approval.
The Union County Public Schools Finance Committee voted unanimously to forward the district's 2025'1026 budget resolution to the full board for approval.
Committee presenter Shauna, a district finance staff member, summarized the packet and asked the committee to send the resolution to the full board. "I would request approval for this to go to full board," Shauna said. Committee members responded with three "Aye" votes and the motion carried to send the resolution forward.
Shauna told the committee the resolution consolidates state funds allocated to date and represents the district's starting budget for the school year, subject to later revisions if the General Assembly takes further action. She said the district received a little over $8,000,000 in additional local funding, which the district used to implement legislative benefit increases and step increases for certified staff tied to the recent mini budget.
The presenter listed several uses for local funds: charter school payments, operational budget increases for contracts, utilities and insurance, staffing realignments, additional nurses in schools and extended months of employment for elementary clerical staff. On the federal side, Shauna said federal allotments and planning allotments for the year have been released and funding is expected to be released in October as usual; she said the district's federal budgets appear stable but that the district will notify the board if funds are pulled back or additional federal allocations arrive.
On capital, the resolution includes appropriations for capital needs and state lease bus purchases. Shauna noted the district's after-school enterprise program budget is larger than last year to account for additional sites the program will open. She described the district's special revenue fund as including non-general K'12 and grant funds without significant changes. Shauna stated the 2526 total budget figure as reported in the packet: $611,000,000.86.
The committee did not take the final adoption vote; it acted to forward the resolution to the full school board for final approval. The committee recorded no amendments or conditions to the motion.
