The Bay County Board of Commissioners on Oct. 7 approved Resolution 2025-185 authorizing Michigan Transportation Fund Bonds series 2025 to finance a storage building and a vehicle wash for the Bay County Road Commission.
Jim Lolo, Bay County Road Commission engineer manager, told the board the project would provide inside storage for equipment and pickup trucks that have been kept outdoors and include a truck wash that will speed routine cleaning. "We're looking at, about 42,000 square feet of, in storage ... for our equipment," Lolo said. He said the truck wash will shorten cleaning from what he described as "an hour and a half" to about "2 minutes," improving maintenance schedules and extending equipment life.
Lolo gave the board an estimated construction cost and warned that market prices are changing: he said an estimate came back at about $10,000,006 and that, as of Oct. 24, the building cost had risen by roughly $300,000. He also told commissioners the Road Commission expects to receive additional state funds next year and said, "we're due to get about 5,300,000.0 next year, more than we had." The board approved the resolution by voice vote.
The board briefly discussed the project before the Road Commission presentation; no formal amendments or conditions were recorded in the meeting minutes. Commissioners moved and supported the resolution; the motion carried on a voice vote.
The project is intended to protect county fleet assets and reduce downtime for vehicles used in road and bridge maintenance. The Road Commission presentation framed the bond as a means to both build needed storage capacity and manage equipment lifecycles.
The board did not provide a recorded roll-call tally for the bond resolution in the transcript; the approval was recorded as a voice vote. The resolution as presented to the board is identified during the meeting as "Michigan Transportation Fund Bonds series 2025," Resolution 2025-185.
