The Sawyer County treasurer told the committee that 30 of 37 foreclosed parcels sold at recent land sales, producing just over $288,000 in receipts.
The treasurer said one bidder withdrew from the remaining seven and that the unsold parcels are likely harder to market because some are road remnant lots. The treasurer noted two of the properties the county acquired at judgment contain occupied dwellings; the county must wait a 90-day redemption period during which previous owners may redeem property by paying outstanding obligations.
If previous owners do not redeem within that period, the treasurer said the county will assume ownership and may initiate eviction processes for occupied dwellings or consider selling properties “as is” and leave eviction obligations to subsequent buyers, depending on the parcel. The treasurer said the earliest the county can start selling or otherwise disposing of the acquired properties is after the 90-day waiting period ends (noted as Oct. 11 at the meeting).
No vote was taken on the treasurer’s report.
