The Estacada Economic Development Commission discussed organizing a career‑day event at the industrial campus to connect students with local employers and trades.
Commissioners proposed running an open house from about 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., bringing students by bus and inviting manufacturers, forestry employers, public safety and other local businesses to set up booths. Two tentative dates were discussed — Sept. 18 and Sept. 25 — and commissioners and school representatives said the later date in September is preferable because it avoids early‑school‑year scheduling conflicts. No formal date was adopted; staff said they would aim for the week of Sept. 25 pending business and district availability.
The commission discussed promotion, noting available EDC budget authority for advertising and options such as geofencing and targeted social media. Staff said a city budget allocation for advertising and promotion had been approved and that an EDC staff lead would coordinate outreach to school districts, community colleges and local bus schedules. Commissioners suggested inviting a range of employers (manufacturing, forestry, emergency services) and coordinating with existing workforce partners.
Commissioners asked staff to return with an event plan including a confirmed date, a list of participating businesses, outreach steps for schools and a promotion budget. Staff indicated a city staff member would lead event logistics and school coordination.
