The Caldwell-West Caldwell School District reported Monday that passage of referendum Question 1 cleared the way to solicit and accept bond bids to fund projects approved by voters.
District officials said they received a bid on April 15 from Roosevelt & Cross at an interest rate of 3.974 percent; the district announced it plans to accept that bid and will publish full bid information on the district referendum web page.
Board and district leaders also outlined plans for a revised design of the James Caldwell High School field house that they said will be substantially reduced from an earlier plan and is expected to cost about $8,000,000. The board said the November general election will be used to present the revised field house question; no district operating‑fund dollars will be used for the project, leaders said.
“Title IX equity for our female athletes” and improved restroom facilities were cited as motivations for the revised, smaller first‑floor design, and the district said it will invite the architect to present updated drawings to the board and public before the November vote.
Board leaders said the district also intends to name an interim superintendent and that the board met with that candidate earlier in the evening; officials said the appointment will be announced prior to the end of the school year. The board emphasized that any personnel actions follow established legal and contractual procedures and that additional details will be provided at future meetings.
No formal vote on the bond bid or the field house design was recorded during the public session on April 21. The discussion was presented during the superintendent’s and president’s reports and was described by district officials as steps in the ongoing referendum implementation and facilities planning process.
