Aiken council votes: consent resolutions passed; appointment confirmed; first reading to remove city property from limits

The Aiken City Council on Oct. 13 took several routine and procedural votes alongside larger items on the agenda.
Consent agenda
Council approved two consent resolutions authorizing acceptance of deeds of dedication from Landalots LLC and Vaucluse Partners QZB LLC. City staff said no requests were received to pull either resolution from the consent agenda. The consent agenda passed unanimously.
Appointments
The council considered appointments to boards and commissions and confirmed Tim Redd to the Building Code Appeals Committee. The nomination was moved and seconded and the appointment was approved by voice vote.
First reading: removal from corporate limits
For new business the council held first reading of an ordinance to remove a small strip of property purchased in 2020 from Dominion Energy from the city corporate limits; staff said the strip was acquired to establish contiguity for future development near Toolbeck Road. Council acted to approve first reading; the vote was recorded as unanimous.
Other items
The council also received public comments on topics including local recycling (glass), overdose response and Narcan distribution, and downtown engagement with students. A certificate of appreciation from the Salvation Army was announced.
Meeting adjournment
A motion to adjourn passed unanimously, and the council closed its Oct. 13 meeting.
